Ontario Provincial Nominee Program

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) for the province of Ontario. The program is designed to allow the province to nominate individuals for permanent residence in Canada based on their ability to contribute to Ontario’s economic development.

Please note that immigration policies and programs can change, so it’s crucial to check the official website of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program or the Ontario government for the most up-to-date information. Below is a general overview of key aspects of the OINP based on information available up to my last update:

Categories and Streams:

  1. Employer Job Offer Category:
    • Foreign Worker Stream: Targets skilled workers with a job offer in Ontario.
    • International Student Stream: Targets international students with a job offer in Ontario.
  2. Human Capital Category:
    • Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream: Targets candidates in the federal Express Entry system with specific skills and work experience.
    • Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream: Targets French-speaking skilled workers in the federal Express Entry system.
  3. Business Category:
    • Entrepreneur Stream: Targets individuals who want to start a business or buy an existing business in Ontario.

Application Process:

  • Applicants typically need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the OINP system.
  • Selected candidates are invited to apply for a provincial nomination.
  • If nominated, candidates can then apply for permanent residence to the federal government.

Express Entry and OINP:

  • The Human Capital categories are aligned with the federal Express Entry system. Successful candidates receive additional points for a provincial nomination, enhancing their overall Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

Criteria and Eligibility:

  • Each stream within the OINP has specific criteria regarding education, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors.
  • The Entrepreneur Stream has its own set of eligibility requirements for individuals interested in starting or buying a business in Ontario.

Updates and Changes:

  • Immigration programs can be subject to changes, including updates to eligibility criteria, application processes, and quotas. It’s important to stay informed about any changes through official channels.

Professional Advice:

  • Considering the complexity of immigration processes, seeking advice from immigration professionals or legal experts can be beneficial.
